Easby Abbey
Easby Abbey is a historical site located in the district of Richmondshire, North Yorkshire, England. The brand name originates from the former Premonstratensian abbey which was built in the 12th century. The site boasts of a well-preserved church, a refectory, a chapter house, and a cloister, among other structures. The abbey was dissolved in 1536, and the structures were left in ruins. Easby Abbey is a significant contributor to the cultural and historical heritage of North Yorkshire, and an essential destination for anyone interested in medieval history.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, there were few people around, the parking was free and there is no entrance charge. The ruined abbey reminded me a little of Tintern Abbey on the banks of the Wye, there is a great feeling of history and mystery. Easby Abbey sits on the banks of the Swale and a walk along the banks is magical.

This is a lovely place, you get to learn the history of the abbey, which is fascinating, and it’s a lovely spot to have a picnic and just chill out for the day. The scenery is beautiful, and the kids always enjoy the echo stone as you first enter.

Amazing experience- full of ruins built to a massive scale. It’s free to visit and you can spend ages exploring the ruins. Useful signs telling you what the different parts of the abbey were used for.

What a place, Free entry, only donations for parking £1 half day £2 Full Day is suggested and its well worth the cost of all day if not more, but by making this entry by donation only mean families who are not so well off can also enjoy this place. Well done English Heritage for making this so accessible. I will be back when in Yorkshire, anyone who is in this area do call in and take a look if your not walking the trails it will take about 1 hour to take this all in.
